The Royal Ascot 2021 will be held from Tuesday 15th June through to Saturday 19th June 2021. The gates for each day at Royal Ascot usually open at 10:30am, with the first race normally at 2:30pm. Ascot dates are similar each year at roughly the same time – the third week of June. The Royal Ascot Meeting is also held over the same five days each year – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Only 4,000 people are allowed to attend, with no paying customers passing through the gates.

Be sure to have a look at the Royal Ascot Betting Offers for 2021 before each meet!

What Time does Ascot Start?

The Royal Procession starts at 2:00 pm on every day of Ascot. It starts usually around an hour before Royal Ascot start times for racing. This consists of around four or five royal horse-drawn carriages that parade down the long Ascot racecourse straight and end up in front of the packed Royal Ascot crowds.

Racing begins at the 2021 meeting at 2.30 pm each day and there are now seven races on the card. The final race is set to go off at 6.10 pm.

In 2020, the last race at Royal Ascot is around 4:40pm each day. In previous years the entertainment doesn’t stop there with the gates open till 8pm. In normal years, there is daily singing around the bandstand each day that is always worth hanging around for, while in the various car parks near the track many racegoers carry on the Royal Ascot party with early evening picnics.

Royal Ascot Schedule

Extra races were added to the Royal Ascot schedule in 2020. They were used to ease the congestion caused by the concertina effect of the season beginning only two weeks earlier.

After their success, however, those “new” races remain. There are now fully 7 races on the card each day, giving 35 Royal Ascot events over the week. All of the new races are handicaps.

Of Britain’s 36 yearly Group 1 races, 8 take place during Royal Ascot. 19 Group races and three Listed events take place overall.

While many people flock to Ladies Day on Thursday, or to the closing day on Saturday, the quality of racing is arguably better at other points of the week. The opening day, Tuesday features no less than three Group 1 events.
